Vladimir Jurowski is currently one of the Staatskapelle’s regular guest conductors. Born in Moscow to the conductor Michail Jurowski, he studied in his home town as well as in Dresden and Berlin, in which city he obtained his first top post at the Komische Oper. International stardom came in 2001 when he was appointed to the position of music director of Britain’s Glyndebourne Festival. In 2007 he took over as principal conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Since October 2011 has also directed the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Russian Federation. In February 2012 he conducted the premiere of the Requiem »Dresden – Ode to Peace« by last season’s Capell-Compositrice Lera Auerbach at a Staatskapelle remembrance concert. Now Vladimir Jurowski is returning to the Staatskapelle for the performance of the first Violin Concerto by the current Capell-Compositrice, Sofia Gubaidulina.
