Since 2001 the Phaeton has been manufactured by hand in Volkswagen’s Transparent Factory, situated in Dresden’s city centre. At this wonderful location the main actors are not machines, but rather highly trained craftsmen and engineers who use their expertise and manual skills to create a truly unique vehicle.
Just as musical virtuosity is an expression of technical mastery, so is the Phaeton a reflection of precision work and a close attention to detail. These shared features, together with a continual striving for the highest standards, form the basis for the perfect partnership between the Staatskapelle Dresden and the Transparent Factory. This teamwork began back in 2001 when Staatskapelle musicians accompanied the festivities at the opening of the Transparent Factory.
In subsequent years customers and visitors to the building’s transparent manufacturing facilities have enjoyed many star-studded concerts under such illustrious conductors as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Vladimir Jurowski, Sebastian Weigle and Asher Fisch.
The Transparent Factory is committed to supporting the Staatskapelle Dresden in its artistic endeavours, whether in the Semperoper or during the orchestra’s international tours. One vital aspect of this support is the fostering of the next generation of musicians and music-lovers. Thus the
Transparent Factory is a popular venue with both young and old when enjoying the orchestra’s Kapelle for Kids events.
One brilliant result of the partnership between the Transparent Factory and the Staatskapelle Dresden is the annual open air concert KLASSIK PICKNICKT held on the meadows in front of the Transparent Factory. This special event is intended as a gift to all of Dresden’s music-loving public and their guests, in which glorious music is combined with culinary delights in a relaxed atmosphere.
