10.05.2017

The votes of the secret ballot were counted this Wednesday (10 May 2017). This secures the collaboration between Christian Thielemann and the Staatskapelle for the years to come.

The contractual details including the duration of the renewed appointment will now be negotiated with the Saxon Ministry of Science and the Arts. The results should be announced before the end of the current season.

»In October 2009 I said that my appointment as Principal Conductor of the Staatskapelle was the realisation of a dream. I am delighted that this dream will now continue. The intimate musical rapport between myself and the Kapelle means that our work is carried out efficiently and with great pleasure. While we have achieved much over the past years, our work together is certainly not finished. On the contrary: We are just beginning!«
Christian Thielemann, Principal Conductor of the Staatskapelle Dresden

»We are looking forward to the continued partnership and the work that this involves. The Staatskapelle places great value on continuity. Our historical record shows the great results of this long-term collaboration with each principal conductor.«
Bernward Gruner, Speaker of the Orchestral Board of the Staatskapelle Dresden
