Capell-Virtuos 2011|2012

The Staatskapelle Dresden has always been an ensemble of virtuosos, and even today many of its members carry with pride the honorary title »Kammervirtuos«. Reflecting this virtuosic tendency within the orchestra, a new position was introduced last season as a counterpart to the Capell-Compositeur: the Capell-Virtuos. This Artist-in-Residence should be a leading guest soloist with a close connection to the orchestra, and who will participate in the Staatskapelle’s concert activities with diverse projects over the course of their residency. Now, following on from Rudolf Buchbinder, the new title-holder for the 2011/2012 season is violinist Nikolaj Znaider, who has been closely linked to the orchestra since a first collaboration in 2005. In addition to his work as a soloist, Znaider embarked several years ago on a successful conducting career, so that Dresden audiences can look forward to his appearances as violinist, conductor and chamber musician in the coming season. A Capell-Virtuos indeed!
