Aziz Shokhakimov

The young Uzbek Aziz Shokhakimov first came under the spotlight in 2010 when he took 2nd prize at the Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition in Bamberg. This success quickly led to invitations to conduct in Milan, Bologna and Moscow – and to a concert appearance with the Staatskapelle Dresden. Shokhakimov is a graduate of the State Conservatory in Tashkent. In 2001 he became assistant conductor to the Uzbek National Symphony Orchestra, and from 2005 to 2009 participated in an educational programme run by the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia, under the direction of Vladimir Spivakov. In November 2010 Aziz Shokhakimov conducted the latter orchestra for the first time at its regular subscription concerts.
