Charles Dutoit is without doubt one of today’s true stars of the conducting firmament. He enjoyed a legendary collaboration with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra for 25 years, during which time he recorded the majority of his almost 200 classical releases. In addition he has directed the Orchestre National de France, the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo as well as the Philadelphia Orchestra. In 2009 he was appointed principal conductor to the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London, while also becoming artistic director of the Verbier Festival in his homeland of Switzerland. Charles Dutoit is a regular visitor to the Staatskapelle rostrum, most recently in November 2009 at a concert with the pianist Martha Argerich.
