Herbert Blomstedt

Herbert Blomstedt and the Staatskapelle have enjoyed a close relationship for more than 40 years. He was the orchestra’s principal conductor from 1975 to 1985, during which time he and the ensemble made more than 130 recordings. After leaving Dresden he directed the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, the NDR Symphony Orchestra as well as Leipzig’s Gewandhaus Orchestra. Today, at over 80 years of age, Herbert Blomstedt remains a hugely popular guest conductor with all the world’s great symphony orchestras, and is conductor laureate of numerous ensembles. In the current season Dresden audiences can look forward to another Palm Sunday Concert in the Semperoper with this great maestro, when he will conduct Anton Bruckner’s Fifth Symphony.
