

Manfred Honeck original career was as a violist, and for many years he played with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Later an assistant to Claudio Abbado, he conducted in Zurich, Oslo and Leipzig before assuming his first major post in 2000 as principal conductor to the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since the 2008/2009 season he has been music director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, with whom he performed an electrifying concert in the Semperoper at the 2010 Dresden Music Festival. In addition he is regularly invited to conduct such top orchestras as the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig as well as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. Last season Honeck conducted a concert series with the Staatskapelle in which the rediscovered cantata »L‘Accoglienza« by Carl Maria von Weber could be heard.
