

The career of the Finnish conductor Sakari Oramo began in the early 1990s as concertmaster with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. After studying conducting under Jorma Panula at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, he became associate principal conductor of »his« orchestra, later advancing to the position of principal conductor to the FRSO in 2003. Oramo jumped into the international spotlight in 1996 when he took over the reins from Sir Simon Rattle at the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Since 2008 he has been principal conductor of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, with whom he has toured extensively and released numerous recordings. In addition Oramo is a popular guest conductor with many top international orchestras, appearing regularly with the Staatskapelle Dresden.
