Since the 2010/2011 season Yannick Nézet-Séguin has been designated principal conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra, thereby stepping into a position previously held by Eugene Ormandy, Riccardo Muti, Christoph Eschenbach and Charles Dutoit. In 2008 the Canadian whizz kid took over from Valéry Gergiev as director of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, Nézet-Séguin is in great demand as a conductor of opera. Following his sensational debut at the Salzburg Festival of 2008 he was quickly engaged for performances at New York’s MET and La Scala in Milan. Since 2006 he has been a regular guest at concerts of the Staatskapelle, most recently in May 2010 when he conducted the orchestra in Dresden’s famous Frauenkirche.
