After receiving early tuition from his father, Truls Mørk completed his musical studies under Frans Helmerson, Heinrich Schiff and Natalia Schakowskaya. Prizes gained at Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Competition and New York’s Naumburg Competition helped launch an exceptional career, which has seen him perform with the Berlin, Munich and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra as well as the great US orchestras. Numerous contemporary composers have written work for Truls Mørk, including Einojuhani Rautavaara, Lasse Thoresen, Matthias Pintscher, Haflidi Hallgrímsson and Krzysztof Penderecki. An acclaimed recording of Benjamin Britten’s Cello Suites garnered this great artist a Grammy Award in 2001.
