An artist portrait in Spiegel magazine described Tzimon Barto as »one of the most complex, creative and best pianists of today«. Born and raised in the south of the USA, Barto’s first piano lessons came from his grandmother, who taught him diverse hymns and Broadway classics. After leaving school he went to New York to study at the famed Juilliard School. His international breakthrough came in the mid-1980s when he was invited by Herbert von Karajan to perform at Vienna’s Musikverein and at the Salzburg Festival. In subsequent years Tzimon Barto has appeared with most of the world’s leading orchestras and is a popular guest at prestigious music festivals. In addition to his work at the piano, Barto enjoys a second burgeoning career as an author.
