»Music is music« says Capell-Virtuos András Schiff about his double role as conductor and soloist. While playing the piano, he views »the whole thing to be chamber music; and so you don’t actually have to conduct, just listen to one another carefully.« This sensitivity, this interplay between soloist and orchestra, was taken to new heights by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in his Piano Concerto in D minor, a work full of sharp contrasts and transient moods. In terms of motivic development, Mozart seems to have been inspired by Haydn. Despite their difference in age, the two composers enjoyed a friendship based on mutual admiration.
