Sven Barnkoth

Assistant Principal Trumpet

Born in Halle an der Saale, Sven Barnkoth has been a member of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden since 2005. He studied trumpet under Peter Michael Krämer at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theater in Leipzig. Sven Barnkoth has been awarded several scholarships, including the Gewandhaus Scholarship in Leipzig in 1996 and the Herbert von Karajan Scholarship from the Berlin Philharmonic in 1998. He gained his first valuable orchestral experience in the German National Youth Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. From 1998 to 2005, he was principal trumpeter of the Handel Festival Orchestra, which is based at the Halle Opera House. He was a member of the brass ensemble and Ludwig Güttler's Virtuosi Saxoniae.

Sven Barnkoth has been actively involved in promoting young musical talent for many years as a brass teacher with the Sachsen-Anhalt State Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Sachsen State Youth Orchestra, and the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie.

Since 2006, he has held a teaching position at the Carl Maria von Weber Special School and University of Music in Dresden.
