Annette Thiem
Assistant Concertmaster
Annette Thiem was born in Dresden to a family of musicians. She received her first violin lessons from her mother at the age of 5. From the age of 10, she was a pupil of Professor Annemarie Dietze.
After attending the Special School for Music in Dresden, she began studying music at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden. In the last three years of her studies she was taught by Prof Manfred Scherzer.
While still a student, Annette Thiem was engaged as a substitute with the Staatskapelle Dresden. After graduating, she became a permanent member of the 2nd violin section. She has been deputy concertmaster of the 2nd violins since 1998.
Annette Thiem is also active as a chamber musician and sets special musical accents across genres in connection with literature, art and jazz.
