Born in 1975, Kay Mitzscherling received his first violin lessons at the age of eight at the Paul Büttner music school in Dresden. He then attended the Saxon Special School of Music Carl Maria von Weber Dresden and was taught by Klaus Hoene and Professor Heinz Rudolph.

From 1995 to 2001, he studied violin with Prof. Reinhard Ulbricht at the same-named university.

Kay Mitzscherling first played as a substitute in the Staatskapelle Dresden from 1999 to 2001. He has been a permanent member of the 2nd violin section since 2002.
