Martin Fraustadt, born in Dresden in 1976, received his first violin lessons from 1982 to 1987 at the Freital Music School with Thomas Seifert. In 1987, he transferred to the Saxon Special School of Music in Dresden. After graduating from high school and completing his civilian service, Martin Fraustadt studied at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden from 1996 to 2002 under Professor Reinhard Ulbricht.

Martin Fraustadt began his orchestral career as a substitute with the Staatskapelle Dresden from 1999 to 2000, followed by an engagement with the Staatskapelle Berlin. He has lived in his native city again since 2005 and has been a permanent member of the Staatskapelle Dresden ever since.
