Constantin Hartwig
Principal Tuba
Constantin Hartwig, born in Neustadt/Weinstraße in 1992, has been principal tuba player with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden since 2022. After receiving his first tuba lessons from his father, Rainer Hartwig, he completed a junior study program with Prof. Ralf Rudolph before beginning his studies with Prof. Jens Bjørn-Larsen at the University of Music, Drama, and Media in Hanover in 2012.
In 2016, Constantin Hartwig was awarded prizes at both the German Music Competition and the International Aeolus Wind Competition. A year later, his debut CD “Klischee ade” was released by the GENUIN label. Since then, he has performed throughout Europe as a soloist with orchestras such as the SWR Symphony Orchestra, the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra, and the Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra in concert halls such as the Gewandhaus Leipzig and the Tonhalle Düsseldorf.
His solo concert at the BBC Proms 2022 attracted international attention when he performed Ralph Vaughan Williams' tuba concerto with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall.
His activities as an orchestral musician have taken him to the orchestras of the HR, WDR, BR, and RBB radio stations and the opera houses in Munich, Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, and Dortmund.
In 2022, Constantin Hartwig was awarded with the OPUS KLASSIK prize with his three-tuba ensemble “Trio 21meter60.”
Furthermore, he pursues his passion as a chamber musician as a member of the internationally acclaimed brass quintet “LJO Brass” and as a welcome guest in ensembles such as “German Brass,” “Salaputia Brass,” and the “Blechbläserensemble Ludwig Güttler.”
