Erik Reike

Erik Reike was born in 1963 and received his first piano lessons at the age of six. In 1976, he began taking bassoon lessons at the Carl Maria von Weber State Music High School. This inspired him to study bassoon and composition at the music academy of the university of music Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden between 1981 and 1986. In 1983, he became principal bassoonist with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, and in 1988, he became principal bassoonist with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden. In 1999, he was awarded the honorary title of Kammervirtuose (chamber virtuoso).

In addition to his work with the orchestra, he is active as a soloist and chamber music partner.
