Friedwart Christian Dittmann

Born in Zwickau, Friedwart Christian Dittmann received his first cello lessons at the age of nine at the Dresden Music School. He studied at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar and took part in international competitions and seminars.

He received his first engagement as principal cellist in 1984 at the Theater Bautzen. He has been a member of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden since 1985 and has held the position of principal cellist since 1989. Additionally he is also a member of the Virtuosi Saxoniae chamber orchestra.

In 2001, he was awarded the Fritz Busch Prize by the Foundation for the Promotion of the Semperoper. In addition to his work with the Staatskapelle Dresden, he also teaches cello and chamber music at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden. Furthermore, he is a member of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra.
