Guido Ulfig

Born in Gotha in 1960, Guido Ulfig received his first music lessons at the age of eight on the tenor horn and piano.

In 1972, he was accepted into the Special School for Music in Weimar, where he studied trombone as his main subject and piano as a minor. Between 1978 and 1982, he studied music at the Franz Liszt University of Music, also in Weimar, majoring in trombone under Manfred Eidner.

In 1982, Guido Ulfig received his first engagement as principal trombonist with the Staatskapelle Weimar, and in 1987 he was offered a temporary contract with the Staatskapelle Dresden, where he was appointed deputy principal trombonist just one year later.

In 1998, he was awarded the honorary title of chamber virtuoso by Hans-Joachim Meyer, Minister of State for Science and the Arts.

In addition to his orchestral activities, Guido Ulfig performs in various chamber music ensembles, such as the brass ensemble “SemperBrass”, the chamber orchestra “Virtuosi Saxoniae”, and various trombone quartets. He has also been a member of the Ludwig Güttler Brass Ensemble since 1992.
