Joachim Huschke

Born in Weimar in 1972, Joachim Huschke received his first bassoon lessons at the age of ten from Wolfgang Engelhardt. In 1985, he was accepted into the Special School for Music in Weimar. From 1991 to 1996, he studied at the Franz Liszt University of Music, also in Weimar, with Manfred Beyer and, from 1993, with Georg Klütsch.

In 1991, Joachim Huschke was a prize winner at the national competition “Jugend musiziert” (Youth Makes Music), and in 1993 he received the special prize at the German Music Competition in Bonn with the Mozart Sextet, with which he became a scholarship holder of the Villa Musica Foundation of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate a year later. 

He made his orchestral debut in 1994 as principal bassoonist with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. From 1997 to 1998, he was assistant principal bassoonist with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, with additional duties as second bassoonist. Before joining the Staatskapelle Dresden, he was engaged as principal bassoonist with the Dresden Philharmonic for eight years. Joachim Huschke has been second bassoonist (with responsibility for contrabassoon) with the Staatskapelle Dresden since 2007.
