Jochen Ubbelohde

Jochen Ubbelohde received his first horn lessons in Karlsruhe from Thomas Crome before transferring to the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, where he studied under Ursula Kepser and Marie-Luise Neunecker. He took part in chamber music and master classes from an early age. He was a scholarship holder of the Villa musica Foundation and winner of the Yamaha Scholarship Competition in 1997. He received his first engagement in 1998 as principal hornist of the Nuremberg Philharmonic Orchestra, before joining the Museum Orchestra of the Frankfurt Opera the following year. Since August 2000, he has been principal hornist with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden and has also played in the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra. He has performed as a soloist with the Sächsische Staatskapelle on several occasions, including concerts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Franz Strauss, as well as Robert Schumann's Concert Piece for Four Horns and Orchestra. 

In September 2015, he performed the solo part of György Ligeti's “Hamburg Concerto” for horn and chamber orchestra under the baton of Gustavo Jimeno at the Semperoper. Jochen Ubbelohde also performs regularly in chamber music evenings with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden. Here he has played Brahms and Ligeti's horn trios with violinist Matthias Wollong and pianist Paul Rivinius, among others. Joint performances with pianist Lars Vogt at his chamber music festival “Spannungen” have been released on CD by EMI Classics.
