Johannes Nalepa

Born in 1981 in Landshut, Lower Bavaria, Johannes Nalepa received his first piano lessons at the age of four from Sylvia Deraed, later studying with Antje Bremecke and Gerhard Wegner at the Dingolfing Music School. At the age of twelve, he received his first cello lessons from Fred Flassig, who also taught him double bass in the following years. At the age of 18, he became a junior student at the Munich University of Music in the class of Matthias Weber, with whom he continued his studies after graduating from high school in 2001. In 2004, after six semesters, he transferred to the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden, where he continued his studies with Reiner Barchmann and graduated in 2006.

Following this, he completed postgraduate studies in Dresden, graduating with a concert exam in the summer of 2008. Johannes Nalepa won several prizes at the “Jugend musiziert” competition as an accompanist and chamber musician, and in 2001 he won second prize at the national level on the double bass. In addition, he attended master classes with Wolfgang Güttler, Jiří Hudec, and Bozo Paradzik. Johannes Nalepa gained his first orchestral experience in 2004 and 2005 with the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra. He also participated in the chamber music festival in Schnackenburg in 2005. From 2004 to 2007, he was a substitute member of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, where he earned a position as a tutti player in 2007.
