Manuel Westermann

Manuel Westermann was born in Bielefeld in 1985 and studied at the Berlin University of the Arts under David Punto and Thomas Lutz. Whilst still a student, he was a scholarship holder at the Orchestra Academy of the Berlin State Opera and subsequently served as principal timpanist with the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra. Since November 2014, Manuel Westermann has been principal timpanist with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden.
Regular guest engagements take him to the State Operas of Berlin, Hamburg and Munich. Since 2018, he has been a member of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra. He also teaches timpani as a lecturer at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden and at the Berlin University of the Arts.
