Martin Knauer

Martin Knauer, born in 1976, received his first double bass lessons at the age of 14 from Roland Hoppe. In 1991, he was accepted at the Special School for Music in Dresden, where he was taught by Bernd Haubold. With the same teacher, he completed his double bass studies from 1994 to 2000, also in Dresden at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music.

His first orchestral engagements led him to the Staatoperette Dresden as a substitute from 1995 to 1998, to the Dresden Philharmonic from 1997 to 2000, and to the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden from 1998 to 2000. In 2000, he was appointed principal double bassist with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra (BSO). In 2004, he moved to the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, where he became deputy principal double bassist in 2006. Since 2008, Martin Knauer has held the same position with the Staatskapelle Dresden.
