Sebastian Fritsch

Sebastian Fritsch is one of the leading and most versatile cellists of his generation.
He attracted attention early on as a prize winner in numerous renowned national and international competitions. He won second prize at the George Enescu International Competition in 2021, the prize and audience prize at the
German Music Competition in 2019, first prize at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy
University Competition and first prize at the TONALi Cello Competition in 2018. Here,
he was also awarded the Audience Prize, the Mariinsky Special Prize and the Saltarello
Special Prize.

Since then, Sebastian Fritsch has performed as a soloist with renowned orchestras such as the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra St. Petersburg and the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra at venues including the Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle Hamburg, the Liederhalle Stuttgart, the Meistersingerhalle Nuremberg, the Semperoper Dresden and the Konzerthaus Berlin.

As a sought-after chamber musician, he has already been a guest at international festivals such as the Rheingau Music Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the Salzburg Festival, the Cello Biennale Amsterdam and the Kronberg Festival, where he has performed with artists such as Jean-Guihen Queyras, Tabea Zimmermann, Sir András Schiff and Gidon Kremer.

He began his studies in 2014 with Jean-Guihen Queyras in Freiburg, continued them in 2018 in Weimar with Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, and completed them in 2024 at the Kronberg Academy in Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt's class. The cellist received important musical inspiration from David Geringas, Frans Helmerson, Wen-Sinn Yang, and Jens Peter Maintz. He also worked with his long-time teacher Lisa Neßling.

Since 2021, Sebastian Fritsch has been principal cellist of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden. He plays a cello by Thorsten Theis from 2015 and is a performing artist for Larsen Strings.
