Zoltán Mácsai

The horn player Zoltan Macsai was born in Berettyoujfalu, Hungary, in 1985. He first studied in Budapest with Palma Szilagyi and later in Berlin with Marie-Luise Neunecker. He has won prizes at several international competitions (Prague Spring, Aeulos Competition in Düsseldorf, Markneukirchen Instrumental Competition) and is a regular guest soloist at international festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, and the Salzburg Mozart Week. As a soloist, he has performed with the Staatskapelle Dresden, the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra, and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg under the baton of Ivor Bolton and Michael Gielen, among others. He has appeared as principal hornist with numerous orchestras, including the Bayerischer Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra, the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, Munich Philharmonic, and the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin. From 2008 to 2016, he was principal hornist with the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, and since 2016 he has held the position with the Staatskapelle Dresden.
